Sydney- 9th of October

Oct 9
4 min read

Today was my last full day in Sydney and in Australia- for now. This truly made my heart sad, I have been tearing up when thinking about leaving here. It truly has felt like home since I could see land in the airways back in September.

This trip has truly reminded me that I need to SLOW DOWN. I move way too fast on a daily basis and I need to be reminded sometimes by both family and life that I am moving too fast, not really thinking and truly needing to be in the present moment. We only have one life to live so be present in the moment.

I have been doing a lot of introspective thinking, both as writing and thinking without taking note of it and this 28th year of my life is going to bring out a lot of change in good ways and in ways that will continue to build my resilience.

I started the day off making sure I had a place to sleep that night, and that my ride to the airport was secured for the 10th. From there, I went and grabbed brekky and a matcha at this incredible coffee shop, Single O Surry Hills. It is this wonderful little resturant and takeaway coffee shop that makes over 1000 flat white coffees a day, not including long blacks, lattes, etc. It was such an impressive operation and no one there seemed to be having a toll taken on them with the stress of the job. They were happily in the moment making the coffee. That is from an oursiders perspective, I was not in their heads.

I then went to work a bit and get a grasp on what I wanted to do for my day. I went to the Museum of Sydney- a FREE museum about the history of Sydeney and how colonists came to Australia, the first 5 years of them being here, etc. It was quite interesting to watch videos on and then about the Governers House (that the musuem was built ontop of and the purpose was to remind people the history of Sydney). The history has a similar one to the US where it assumed the native people were savages, and needed to be shown "the better way of living" but the aborigional people of Australia knew what was best for them. Community, living freely and taking care of the land. I will not go too much into my thoughts on this becuase I am hoping most of you have similar thoughts about it.

There is also something in Australia called the stolen generation. This is the stealing of aborigional children from their parents and given to white families to try and get them into white culture. The heartbreak that I felt, and feel whenever I think about this. They were not only taken from their land but from their families. Some aborigional people do not even know their history or family, or what land they come from due to this. Gutted.

200 years- Sate Library of New South Wales - The Lost Generation- Miss Roselands

I also went to the State Library of New South Wales where they were having many art displays going on for 200 years of Libraries and 200 years of them. They had artwork from Australian artists, Lorrie Graham: photojournalist, Max Dupan, Pamela Allen, and another couple of exhibits.

Before leaving the Library, this boy came and sat right next to me, he seemed pretty tired. I asked him if he's had a busy day so far, etc. He told me all about the train, the light rail, the ferry, and everything him and his mom did that day and how tired of walking he was. It is funny, kids seem so much easier for me to break the silence with than adults. His mom came out of the bathroom and they continued on their journey, but I did need that human interaction. I talked to my australian family a little bit today as well, it was nice to catch up and hear what they did, EBikes and going almost 40km/h! He had a blast, you could tell.

After exploring I went back to the botanical gardens and laid down for a bit. I needed to rest and just soak up the last moments in Sydney. It was a real big day of learning and exploring. I was mentally exhausted from reading and walking. I did finally get to hear someone play the digeridoo and that was quite a sound, I loved it.

I had an early night in, ate cereal in my room and a little adult lunchable.

10th of October- the longest day of the year for me

I am sitting at the airport writing this now being reminded of my incredible trip with honestly no regrets. I am so glad that everything happened the way that it did. There is nothing that I wish I had done, but there are things that I want to make sure I get more time to do when I come back. My guess is 2027 has something great instore for me.

Thank you to you all for your support, community, and for reading these past three weeks. This is the last post. I do write weekly so if you want to keep being inside my head feel free to stay suscribed but no drama. Do you! I write for me, remember.

I love you all, truly. I cannot wait to see some of you soon, others of you- I will connect with due to not being able to see you soon.
